Tuesday, 06.02.2024 – The terrible earthquake in Turkey and Syria one year ago.
Together with its partners, including the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology – Institute of Concrete Structures and Building Materials – and Covestro, KAST has developed systems for the structural reinforcement of buildings. These systems can significantly improve the performance of for example masonry, both in new buildings and in renovation/refurbishment projects, and act as an additional “airbag”. We therefore improve the properties of building components with our technical textiles and systems considerably.
In Hatay, in the middle of the earthquake zone of the tragedy in Turkey, our Turkish customer reinforced several historic buildings with a carbon and our EQ-Grid system before the quake. In an earthquake, a variety of influencing factors certainly come together – these buildings survived the earthquake unscathed, while buildings in the same street collapsed.
On Tuesday, February 6, 2024, there will be a report on the devastating earthquake in Turkey and Syria one year ago on 3sat in the NANO science magazine (at 6:30 p.m.) as well as in ARD’s Mittagsmagazin (at 1:00 p.m.), as part of Bayerischer Rundfunk’s Abendschau (at 5:30 p.m.) or SWR aktuell Baden-Württemberg (at 6:00 p.m./ 7.30 p.m).
